There sure is a lot going on in the real estate industry so far this year. Litigation from class action attorneys and attacks from the Department of Justice on our very principles of cooperation and the fundamentals of the MLS. A market with low inventory and high mortgage rates that is sending homes prices up and leaving a lot of buyers with no options to buy a new home. What are we going to do!
I say, “keep your eye on the prize” and by that, I mean keep doing what you have always done to make money in the real estate business. Block out all the distractions especially since we don’t have a final outcome on the legal maters and we can’t do much about the market. I still see in the MLS commissions offered to the buyer’s agents in most listings, so for now, it should be business as usual. Get your buyer broker agreements negotiated and signed up front since that is the law in Virginia. Then go out and list and sell property as hara as you can for as long as you can or until someone or something stops you. There is no reason to speculate on what the future brings because the changes will most likely take time and we can’t really know what the changes will be or how much they will change what we currently do to make money. Real estate will continue to be bought and sold and real estate agents will still play a major role in the process. Keep yourself relevant by practicing your trade and help your buyers and sellers!
Thanks for all who participated in Series 2 of the Prospecting for Success Program for four straight Mondays in February and March. The sixty plus agents who attended each week received some great information about the listing presentation and staying connected with your clients before and after the sale. We hope the launch of Series 3 sometime in early Summer.
